The 12 Signs of the Zodiac are represented by the qualities of the 4 Elements (water, air, fire, earth), forming Triplicities. There are 4 triplicities, each containing 3 of the zodiac signs.
Thus, the triplicity of water contains the signs of Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, the triplicity of air contains the signs of Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, the triplicity of fire contains the signs of Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, and the triplicity of earth contains the signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.
